The demand for hilsa is increasing in the international market. The government wants to take hilsa to the next position after tuna fish, said Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Amin Ur Rashid.

He said this at a meeting with officials of the ministry and departments in Chittagong on Saturday (June 7, 2026) afternoon.

At that time, the Agriculture Minister said that the government has undertaken various projects to increase hilsa production. In addition, practical measures are being taken to stop jatka.

He also said that the government has planned to build mini cold stores in the unions to prevent middlemen in agriculture and to protect farmers' yields throughout the year.
